About our club
BPW Geelong was established in 1985 by our founding member, Micky Hayward, with the assistance of BPW Doutta Galla. Our vision is to empower the women of the Geelong region in all aspects of their life, including family, work, personal interests and wider communities. We offer our members and friends a great way to socialise and network at our monthly dinners and lunches. So if you are new to the region or just looking to expand your personal or professional connections we welcome you to join us at our next dinner or lunch event to enjoy the company of a friendly and dynamic group of professional women.
As part of our strategic plan for 2013/14, BPW Geelong has committed to supporting women who have recently returned, are returning or are entering the workforce. In line with this commitment, BPW Geelong has formed a new community partnership with BacLinks, for the ‘Best Foot Forward’ program. This program is aimed at specifically assisting women aged 25 -55 from disadvantaged and marginalized backgrounds on their journey into the workforce. Consisting of a full day workshop to be held on April 30 2014 for up to 30 long term unemployed women, the day will consist of a series of information sessions to help these women gain skills and self-confidence, with sessions planned on personnel grooming, resume writing, self-esteem and basic financial literacy.
BPW Geelong also supports young women in Geelong to pursue further education and achieve their optimum potential. We do this through a 2-year mentoring program for women attending the latter years of a high school in a less advantaged area. Over the past three years, 9 young women have graduated from our mentoring program, and another 5 women are currently actively part of the program
BPW Geelong's other key events this year are our International Women's Day Conference and Moving on Up Breakfast. This year our International Women's Day Conference is on Friday 7th March 2014. The subject of the conference is "Your big idea: How to get it done without doing it all". Tickets for this event can be booked online via www.trybooking.com.au/EGHQ. Our Moving on Up Breakfast will be held in May and further details will be available in due course - please check the Events Section or email BPW Geelong via the email address below to be added to our mailing list.
