" May we put away all pretence and meet each other face to face without self-pity and without prejudice" The International Collect. Mary Stewart BPW will publicly support the ideal of reconciliation and commit to providing leadership in the reconciliation process. BPW will promote our aims and objectives in our interaction with indigenous peoples wherever possible; in particular we will stimulate and encourage in women a realisation and acceptance of their responsibilities to the community locally, nationally and internationally. BPW will work for equal opportunities for women in the economic, political, social and cultural life of Australia, the elevation of the status of women and the removal of discrimination. BPW will work together with indigenous Australians to improve community awareness and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the first peoples with distinct cultures, rights and status. BPW will endeavour increasingly to involve indigenous women in our work. BPW will keep abreast of current indigenous issues and disseminate relevant information to all BPW clubs. BPW will learn more about the causes and extent of disadvantage and reject racism and related behaviour. BPW will contribute to and participate in national celebrations related to reconciliation. BPW will negotiate with local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to include indigenous ceremony into our official events where culturally appropriate. BPW will lobby governments to ensure their policies and practices take into consideration their human rights obligations in relation to indigenous peoples. BPW will commit to forming partnerships to overcome disadvantage, and encourage members to make similar commitments. BPW acknowledges that this statement has been developed in part from the "Roadmap for Reconciliation" prepared by the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation
